The Phoenix area might be in the middle of the desert, but that’s a fact that obviously didn’t faze the builders and designers of the region’s more than 200 golf courses. Golf, in fact, is probably Greater Phoenix’s most internationally renowned attraction.
With all the golf courses in the area, it’s no surprise that Phoenix has such a large and varied selection of golf course homes. Of course, it’s not just its large quantity of golf courses that makes Phoenix the mecca for golfing enthusiasts that it is, it’s also their quality. A significant number of the courses you’ll find here have been designed by such celebrated golf course architects as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Robert Trent Jones.
Among the region’s most notable courses are those of the Troon North Golf Club, Grayhawk Golf Club, DC Ranch, Anthem Country Club, Arrowhead Country Club, TPC of Scottsdale, Kierland Golf Club, Boulders Golf Club, Gold Canyon Golf Club, Rancho Mañana Golf Club, We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, and Pebblecreek.
Golf events here are equally plentiful. Every year, the world-renowned Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale plays host to the FBR Open, arguably the most well attended stop on the PGA Tour. Phoenix’s newly renovated Papago Golf Course recently hosted the 2009 LPGA Phoenix International.
